Make yourself at home in a boutique self-catering cottage tucked in the beautiful Porth Valley, just a couple of minutes’ from Watergate Bay, Porth and Whipsiderry beaches. Hunker by the log burner, bask on the sheltered patio and let us organise your surfing lessons, food experiences and all sorts of family activities by the beach.

Enjoy the coast and the countryside, from a boutique self-catering cottage minutes' from Watergate Bay. On the outskirts of Newquay, with a handful of beaches on the doorstep, kickback and let us organise your surfing lessons, gourmet foodie experiences and other families activities.

  • The Bull Pen is just 3 miles from central Newquay, the UK's surfing capital, where you can hit the waves at the famous Fistral Beach.
  • Water temps range from 9-10C in winter to 15-18 in summer – so you’ll need at least a 3/2mm wetsuit in summer and 5/4mm in winter.
  • You can walk to Whipsiderry beach, which is the perfect spot for a rockpool ramble at low tide. You can walk all the way from Whipsiderry along the sand to Watergate Bay while the tide is out.
  • If you're looking for a family beach day, head to Porth Beach where it's safe for swimming and paddling.
  • Also nearby is Watergate Bay – two miles of family friendly sands boasting consistent surf and excellent beach cafés and restaurants.
  • Mawgan Porth is just a 5-minute drive.
  • Newquay’s buzzing beaches are just 3 miles away, including Lusty Glaze, Tolcarne, Great Western, Towan and the surfing mecca of Fistral.

With self-catering properties being the perfect space to enjoy Cornwall’s smorgasbord of delicious food without going out, we bring the restaurant to your property by arranging gourmet spreads and excellent service. If you do fancy going out, some of our favourite cafes and restaurants nearby include:

  • The Beach Hut, Watergate Bay: Hangout surfside and feast on cracking sea views in one of the coolest beach cafés in Cornwall. Sandy feet are welcome in this trendy on-the-beach diner where you can grab a legendary burger, warm up with an Extreme Hot Chocolate or tuck into bistro favourites and succulent local seafood. Pre-book at busy times.
  • Make the most of the ocean breeze and try kitesurfing with Atlantic Riders.
  • Go stand-up paddleboarding from Porth Beach.
  • Follow the South West Coast Path over the cliff tops to Watergate Bay, stopping for a hot chocolate or a family feast at The Beach Hut before the return journey.  
  • Walk along Porth Island, where you can find the remains of an Iron Age castle and witness the sea spraying from the blow hole at mid-tide.
  • It's just 3 miles into Newquay, where you can ride the Concrete Waves of the skate park and experience the vibrant beach culture of the UK’s surfing capital. 
  • Check out the underwater life without getting your hair wet when you visit the Blue Reef Aquarium. 
  • Head to Newquay Zoo to see over 100 species of wildlife from lions to poison dart frogs.
